Total Shoulder Replacement

In total shoulder replacement surgery (TSA), the worn out, degenerated surfaces of the shoulder socket (glenoid) and the ball of the shoulder joint (humeral head) are replaced with artificial surfaces made of special metal and plastic. This procedure results in excellent pain relief for most patients, and a return to comfortably performing activities of daily living, and some patients are able to participate in more aggressive activity, including some sports. The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia and typically involves a 1-night stay in the hospital followed by discharge to home for most people. For more information please click here.
